State of Cyber Security - A View from Inside the Beltway

Robert Bigman, Chief, Information Assurance Group, has been employed in the Agency for 25 years in the Information Technology discipline. In the early 1980’s, Mr. Bigman was the first information security specialist hired from private industry. He served outside the information security area in the late 1980’s with assignments in the Counterterrorist Center and later as the Chief, Information Technology in the Counterintelligence Center. In 1982, Mr. Bigman was assigned to the Directorate of Operations’ Information Management Staff and the Directorate’s Information System Security Manager (ISSM). With the formation of the Center for CIA Security in 1998, Mr. Bigman accepted the position of Deputy Director for Information Assurance (INFOSEC) and has served as the Agency’s Senior Information Assurance Officer since that time.
